Today’s Kid’s Word Lesson

Acts 2: 1-11 verse 4

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

 

The flowers on the Church Altar are given to the glory of God  by Sam and Marjorie Folds in thanksgiving for our grandchildren and also by David and Mary Jane Sundby in memory of Marjorie and Donald Sundby.

 

Youth today: no youth groups as we all enjoy "Fired Up with the Spirit".

 

The loose plate offering today will be sent to our Diocesan's "Bishop's Discretionary Fund".  This offering will be used to provide funding and travel expenses for retired and assisting bishops who assist Bishop Howard with visitations and pastoral needs throughout the Diocese. Your checks should be made out to Church of Our Saviour and memo: Bishop's Discretionary Fund. Our bookkeeper will then send one check to our Diocese.

 

Time to sign up for the COOS Parish Family Camping trip at Camp Weed over Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25. Registration forms are inserted in your bulletin. Sign up Deadline is Friday, May 9.

 

Ladies Sip & Sample Tuesday, May 13 in the Family Life Center from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Join us for fun and fellowship. Bring a beverage and small snack to share, hope to see you there!

 

St. Anne’s Chapter Annual Picnic will be held on church grounds Wednesday, May 14. Bring a large covered dish to share.

 

There will be a Memorial Service for Lucille Reynolds at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14 here at the church. All who attend the service are invited to take part in a covered-dish picnic which is the annual end of the year event for St. Anne's Chapter of which Lucille was a member.

 

Men’s Grill ‘N Chill is this Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the backyard of the FLC. Bring yourself, a friend, something to throw on the grill, your favorite beverage and a few bucks to cover other necessities. Please RSVP to Art Shults at ashults@avaya.com to let him know you are coming or for more information. 

 

Calling all dirty cars on Saturday, May 17 for the annual Youth Missions Car Wash from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the FLC. All donations help the Youth Tennessee Mission trip and the Team Navajoland Mission trip.

 

Youth grades 6-12, save Sunday, May 18 for CONNECT, a special youth event for Jacksonville Episcopal youth. Cost is only $5. We will meet at 2:30 p.m. to go to the Daybreak Pavilion behind St. Francis in-the-Field. Live music, inflatable games, food, hayrides, lots of fun. We will return to the FLC by 6:00 p.m. Sign up with Frances by e-mail.

  

Nick Barnette of our Boy Scout Troop 110 is starting work on his Eagle Scout Project here at Our Saviour. He plans to make an addition to the brick walkway by the Nursery/GH. This will allow safer pedestrian traffic from the parking lot. Nick has begun raising funds, any and all donations will be appreciated. Children’s Summer Clothing (used but in good condition) is being requested by the Homeless Coalition in St. Augustine. Donations should be labeled for “Feed My Lambs” and placed in the closet of the River Room at COOS.

 

The next trip to Cuba will be September 10-17. We will visit our companion parish in La Gloria and other parishes in central Cuba. The highlight of this trip will be a service and party celebrating the 15th birthday of Father Evelio and his wife Madel’s daughter, Claudia. Cost for the trip will be about $1000.00, which includes air fare from Jacksonville, all food, and lodging. Travelers must apply for visas by June 1 and the trip is limited to 5 people. To register for Vacation Bible School or to volunteer your time and talent, please check out our new website www.coos.org and click on “Rainforest Adventure”. This year our VBS theme is, Rainforest Adventure with a topic of: “Stewardship of God’s Creation”. We will be using recycled items for many of the activities. Please check this area each week to see if you can help us with any of the supplies we will need: Shoe boxes of all sizes; Coffee cans with lids and Cardboard tubes from long gift wrap paper rolls.

 

Feeling Crafty? Want something different to do this summer? HOLY CRAFTs for Missions is coming this summer! Every Wednesday beginning in June through August, youth and others are invited to the FLC between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. to make crafts and other artistic creations that will be sold in the Fall to benefit youth missions and outreach. How much of my offering will go to meeting human needs and expanding mission and ministry?

 

Each year, 100 percent of the collected offering is granted.

 

UTO Committee expenses are supported entirely through earned income from dedicated trust funds. The National Church supports a staff of two people in the UTO office located in the Episcopal Church Center in New York City.

 

What Kinds of things does UTO fund?

 

* Kitchen equipment for a homeless shelter.

* Playground for a child-care center.

* Handicap access in church and service buildings.

* A school in the Dominican Republic.

* Family counseling.

* A dental clinic for the poor.

* Half-way houses.

* After-school programs.

* Vans and other vehicles.

* A library for a seminary in Africa.
